Gratefully acknowledging the many volunteers who dedicate their time, talents, and energy to make a difference in the community. |
Happy Fall Neighbors,
The leaves this year have turned a brilliant color. I hope that you and the care recipients that you serve are enjoying them as you drive throughout Western New York. Just as seasons change, so does Hearts and Hands. I am sad to inform our network that Angelina Anzalone will be leaving the organization full-time to pursue her passion as a full-time dance instructor at Lewiston and Grand Island Dance Centers. We’re excited for her to pursue this amazing opportunity and we’re glad that she has chosen to remain onboard as a volunteer and do some part-time work for Hearts and Hands doing graphic design. I am also sad to report that Heidi is leaving to help launch a new community center in the area and folks can look forward to continuing to work with her that capacity.
Angelina and Heidi have played an instrumental role in developing and executing our outreach strategy. Just recently we sent out our annual satisfaction survey and a care recipient noted: “This year seemed better finding help than other years.” This observation is a direct reflection of the hard work these two ladies have done to build out our volunteer network. Over the last two years they have recruited and trained over 204 volunteers, rebranded our marketing pieces, established faith and community partners in the city of Buffalo, and so much more. I am proud of the work they have achieved at Hearts and Hands and wish them the absolute best as they move onto the next chapter of their career. At the same time, I look forward to partnering with new outreach staff who will continue to strengthen and build our neighborhoods across Western New York. Angelina and Heidi will be joining us at our next volunteer engagement event, the Ugly Sweater Cookie Bash on December 9, 2022 for those who'd like to say goodbye in person.

The other change, I want to talk about is our upcoming volunteer engagement activity! We value our volunteers and enjoy the time we connect with one another. Our last coffee hour at Coffee and Stone in North Tonawanda was so much fun. We had around 18 volunteers come and connect with one another. Our next engagement opportunity will be on December 9th from 4:30 to 6:30 at the Wright Center in Akron. We are planning an Ugly Sweater Cookie Bash, where we ask you to bring and share cookies. Hearts and Hands will provide beverages and light hors d'oeuvres. Responding to suggestions from volunteers to have opportunities where care receivers can come together and build relationships with one another and a support system…. We are going to invite volunteers to bring a +2. You can bring a loved one and/or a care receiver. If you choose to bring a care receiver, we do ask that you let the office know so we can record the ride in our system (this will not count towards their 4 ride per month allotment).
Invitations will be going out to volunteers later this week, please watch your email for the invitation and RSVP so we can plan accordingly. You’ll be able to put your +2 into the reservation system as well. :)
Lastly, I just want to THANK EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU for making a difference in your neighborhood. We are so blessed to have the volunteer network that we do. The testimonials that care receivers share are heartwarming. As we move into one of the busiest seasons of the year, I want to invite you to care for your self and take it easy over the next couple of months. You’ve worked hard this year ensuring your community has access to transportation, support with household chores, and companionship.

A look back at our Coffee Hour gathering at Coffee and Stone Café in October. It was lovely getting together with you! What's next?
Join us for our Ugly Sweater Party on December 9, 2022 from 4:30-6:30pm! Wright Center 11 Church Street
Akron, NY 14001 RSVP by: November 30, 2022 |
Please note that the Hearts and Hands offices will be closed November 24th-25th for the Thanksgiving Holiday, and December 21st-January 2nd for the remainder of the Holiday season. We ask that all care receiver requests are called in for trips/services through January 6, 2023 no later than Wednesday, December 14th. This will allow adequate time to fill requests before we close.
We ask that you encourage care receivers to call in requests needed through January 6th as they will not be accepted after December 14th. Thank you! |
Hello. My name is Brycen Carle, Community Engagement Coordinator. I have a wonderful wife named Cassidy. As Cincinnati, Ohio natives we moved to the Buffalo in June of 2022. I enjoy most hanging out with friends by either playing board games, video games or going on an adventure. I also enjoy reading mostly fantasy novels, and look forward to getting to know the Buffalo area. |
