As a valued faith partner, we know your goals align with ours. By encouraging your congregation to live out their faith in tangible ways you are fostering what we call a caring community connection.
Heart and Hands matches caring, reliable volunteers with older community members who have essential needs like transportation, to ensure they can continue living independently. While dedicated volunteers provide needed services, they are also engage in meaningful conversation, and become active listeners. These actions help foster a caring community connection that improves the quality of life for volunteers and seniors in need.
Let’s discover ways we can collaborate further to serve the most vulnerable members of this community!
Join us for a Three C's Workshop on Thursday, March 10th at 12:00pm and learn how we can facilitate caring connections in the community together. To register for the workshop click here - https://bit.ly/three_c_workshop. |
When speaking to local pastors, we often hear about the importance of Youth Ministry programs. Engaging students in faith related activities and teaching about service to others is of high priority.
We’d like to invite your youth to participate in our “Heart to Heart” card campaign. Heart to Heart is a card writing initiative that links seniors with youth. Inter-generational connections can be very meaningful to all engaged.
Faith Partner, Church of the Nativity in Tonawanda, invited their youth group to create “Hug Cards” for Hearts and Hands care receivers in Tonawanda. These beautifully crafted cards shared a warm, embracing message of love. Mailed early during the pandemic, these cards touched many seniors who felt lonely and isolated. Can you think of anything more enjoyable than a delicious meal at your favorite restaurant enhanced by friendly conversation? Hearts and Hands Care Receiver, Emily, calls her volunteer coordinator to make this request each week.
Dan, a Hearts and Hands volunteer, agreed to take Emily to her favorite restaurant a few months ago and hasn't looked back. Taking Emily to her favorite restaurant and engaging in conversation nearly a dozen times, we asked Dan why he takes this request so often. To which he replied, "Emily is a very a pleasant and happy person with a positive attitude. She really looks forward to these outings, having a change in scenery, and sharing memories of her late husband."..."I love volunteering because it is very satisfying and rewarding to know that I have made someone else happy.”
Do you know of someone in your congregation that would enjoy making a meaningful connection with a care receiver? If so, we ask that you share Dan and Emily's story.
