New Messaging and Promotional Materials

As Hearts and Hands partners, we want you to have the tools necessary to share information about the work we do. We have new messaging which outlines our mission and vision.

Our Mission

Hearts and Hands connects caring volunteers with older adults by providing transportation, in-home supports, and caregiver respite to:

Uphold their dignity

Improve their quality of life

Enhance their ability to live in their home of choice

Assist their primary caregivers

Our Vision

Together, we see neighbors serving neighbors to foster community connections, live independent and healthy lives.

We would love to meet with your church members at a service, prayer gathering or mission meeting. While together, we will share our new materials which highlight services offered and volunteer opportunities. We invite your congregation to share our mission with others and pray for the safely and well-big of our volunteers care receivers.

Calling all yard work volunteers!

Do you have a group of church members who love the great outdoors and take pride in our community? We are in need of volunteers for end of summer and fall yard work requests. Many care receivers are no longer able to mow the lawn, trim shrubs, plant flowers and rake leaves. They take pride in their homes and need support to care for their outdoor spaces.

Can your church assemble a small number of teens and adults who can donate a few evenings or Saturdays? Your team can support seniors who live independently. This initiative not only beautifies our neighborhoods but sends the message to our older community members that we care about them. We all need to feel we are part of a caring community connection. To get started please contact us. Only the team leader will need to participate in a 30- minute orientation at your place of worship or via zoom. Please call 716-406-8311x 103.

Reducing Feelings of Anxiety in Public Places

In a time when many of us are feeling uncertain about safety in public places, we should employ practices which help us reduce anxiety.  Shari Sullivan, Crisis Counselor for the Buffalo Urban League tells us “It’s okay not to feel okay. Don’t pressure yourself.”  When counselling East Side residents who returned to Tops on Jefferson Avenue for the emotional re-opening, she advised them “Today perhaps you got yourself to the parking lot and couldn’t go further. That’s okay. Maybe tomorrow you’ll get your self to the front door, and another day, inside the store.” Ms. Sullivan shares that we all feel the need to stay strong, not cry and get it together. She states “We don’t need to pressure ourselves. Self-care is very important.”

There are techniques we can employ to help us feel more emotionally strong. Shari advises us to be alert and concentrate on something such as birds chirping. Re-direct our focus to our surroundings. Often our thinking is different than our reality. Notice what you are seeing, hearing, and smelling. Tune into what your 5 senses are experiencing. Ms. Sullivan also suggests a breathing exercise. Start by sitting up straight, taking in a deep breath, while silently counting to 4. Next, hold that breath for 4 seconds and then gently exhale, while counting to 4. This practice helps us align everything in our body and restores a sense of calm.
