You’ve heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. But here’s another twist on the holiday planning season—how about #NYGivesDay?
#GivingTuesday takes place annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and is now in its 5th year. NY Gives Day is an extension of this blooming tradition, encouraging people to use social media not only to donate, but to reach out to their communities in new ways and become involved. “We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back,” says the Giving Tuesday website. On Tuesday, November 29, 2016, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students all over the state will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.
Donations are not the only way to support us on #NYGivesDay. One way to help is by creating an “unselfie”—an example is shown above. Write “Hearts and Hands” on a piece of paper, and something as simple as “I volunteer!” or “Neighbors Helping Neighbors!” Tell us your reason for volunteering in your community. Share your “unselfie” on Twitter, Facebook and through email. Add #NYGivesDay and @hnhcares to your post. Be creative–you’ll be helping to spread the word about your involvement with Hearts and Hands.
